In the heart of Jecua, Mozambique, an ambitious initiative is bridging the gap between rural isolation and global connectivity. The Jecua Community Connectivity and Digitalization Project, led by Microsoft, Ologa Sistemas de Información, and the TAEDA Foundation in collaboration with Franciscan friars, is revolutionizing the region by providing internet access and digital training to over 100,000 underserved Mozambicans.
The project has established satellite internet infrastructure and Wi-Fi hotspots, connecting key institutions such as Cristo Re Secondary School, the Franciscan fraternity, and local government offices. Students, teachers, and administrators have received smartphones and laptops, enabling access to digital tools for the first time.
The program emphasizes digital literacy training, empowering communities with practical skills for learning, communication, and entrepreneurship, with a special focus on including women and girls in the digital realm. Training also addresses online safety, teaching participants to protect themselves while utilizing advanced tools like AI for translation and research.
This project is just the beginning. With ongoing training and support, Jecua is confidently stepping into a digital future where opportunities are just a click away. We are proud to contribute to this transformation, empowering communities and creating sustainable development possibilities.
